Renzo Gracie Academy or Krav Maga Institute offer self-defense seminars. Online self defense training is also possible. For more information, please refer to the following article. Self defense seminars are designed to teach you how protect yourself from potential attackers. While a seminar might not be cost-free, the information it gives is crucial to your safety. UB Athletics

Students who are interested in combating violence can attend self-defense seminars offered by UB Athletics. In order to be eligible for these seminars, students must possess a valid UB Student ID Card or Intramural Sports Permit Card. When participating in Intramural sport, students must be respectful of both their opponents and the Recreation staff. Misconduct can cause the University to stop a contest, declare a forfeit against one or both teams, or suspend an offending team.

These workshops can be taught by Rape Aggression Defense officers who are certified by University at Buffalo Police Department. Anyone interested in preventing or assisting sexual assault is welcome to these workshops. They are open to all members and guests of the UB Community. Participating students must be UB students to attend any of these workshops. Women and men can also attend seminars on the topic. Renzo Gracie Academy

Greenpoint Branch of the Renzo Gracie Academy hosted a Women's Self-Defense Seminar for the Community on March 19. Arthan Bender, an instructor from the Academy, was the guest instructor. After several requests from her clients, Chen and Bandeira set up the seminar. The two have been training together since 2003 and practice at minimum twice per day. The first seminar taught students the basics of defense against various threats.


Students are taught by 6th degree black belt Master Renzo Gracie, who was born and raised in Brazil and moved to New York in 1997.
